Nestled at 1890 E Evans Ave, this local gem is celebrated for serving a delightful array of flavorful dishes that transport you straight to the heart of the Middle East. Renowned not only for its vibrant atmosphere but also its welcoming service, Jerusalem Restaurant is truly a haven for food lovers.
The menu is a treasure trove of options, each crafted with care. Start with an appetizer of Sambusa, delightful fried pastries filled with spiced potatoes, onions, and lentils, or opt for the Fouel, a savory puree of fava beans that’s simply divine. For those looking to share, the Combination “Super Dish” offers a sampler that showcases almost everything they have to offer, including their creamy hummus, tender sheesh kabob, and crunchy falafels, spiced uniquely with cinnamon.
Salads like the Tabbouleh and Fatouch are not to be missed, providing fresh, zesty flavors that invigorate the palate. However, some guests have expressed concerns about occasional inconsistency in portion sizes and freshness, a reminder that even the best places can have off days.
For the main course, the Lamb and Beef Gyro plate comes highly recommended, paired beautifully with perfectly seasoned rice and tangy tzatziki sauce. Each bite of the lamb shank has been described as “the best lamb ever”, a testament to the kitchen’s ability to infuse each dish with rich flavors. The cozy atmosphere, accentuated by friendly service, makes every visit memorable, whether you're dining in or enjoying the quaint patio upstairs.
While Jerusalem Restaurant is a Denver staple for its generous portions and affordability, some reviews suggest taking careful note of the evolving portion size. Yet, regulars still rave about the satisfying, comforting experience that continues to draw them back to this beloved eatery.
In a nutshell, if you're in search of a casual yet satisfying Middle Eastern dining experience, Jerusalem Restaurant beckons with open arms and fully-loaded pita sandwiches, savory plates, and a warm community feel. It's a place where flavors unite, making every meal a celebration of culinary tradition, one dish at a time.
Jerusalem's has long been known for its consistently amazing and flavorful cuisine. However, I've recently noticed a decline in value, as the portion sizes no longer justify the prices. Furthermore, on several recent occasions, the dishes lacked the freshness I've come to expect, raising concerns that they might have been leftovers from the previous day.
Located right across from the University of Denver, Jerusalem Restaurant was a shabby but awesome place for affordable, flavorful, generously-portioned Middle Eastern food. The Combination "Super Dish" was the perfect plate to order for a sampling of nearly everything on their menu, including creamy, tahini-rich hummus, tabbouleh, fatouch (chopped cucumbers, tomatoes, onions, and bell peppers), two falafels, one dolma, beef sheesh kabob, chicken kabob, sheesh kifta (ground meat kabob), and thick slices of beef/lamb gyro. The falafels had a hard, crunchy shell and were (uniquely) spiced with cinnamon. The beef kebob was tough and chewy, but all the other meats were tender and flavorful--my favorite was the gyros for its salty flavor, which went nicely with the refreshing, acidic tabbouleh and fatouch. All the components came together nicely and paired with the rounds of thin pita bread on the side. Overall, the quality and portions here were a steal for the affordable prices, and the service was super friendly too!
Jerusalem Restaurant is my go to spot for a comforting meal. The restaurant itself is quite small but they have done well with what space that they have. The service here is always incredible. This last time we went our food was at our table in less than 10 minutes from ordering. My go to dish is the Lamb + Beef Gyro plate. The rice is super delicious and I love the tzatziki sauce that you can order on the side. My husband went outside of his Meat Platter order this last time and found his new dish of choice. He ordered the Lamb Shank and this was seriously the best lamb I have ever tasted. We will always come back to this restaurant, it has become a staple in our household. I also highly recommend eating in the restaurant. The patio upstairs is our favorite spot, but the food is best when eaten at the restaurant.
My son and I had lunch here with my dad and brother last weekend. Our waitress was friendly and accommodating towards my toddler. They don't have a kids menu, which would have been nice as the portions are way too big for a 3 year old who wanted meat. I hadn't visited in about forever and wanted my long time favorite (sober) order: vegetarian platter with well done fries. (Late night I always went a chicken shawarma) with well done fries. My platter was delicious as always but I definitely noticed that it was much smaller than it used to be, and they only gave us 3 pitas for the table (my brother got the meat platter). My son got a cupcake for dessert (not ready for the joys of baklava i guess). The cupcake was surprisingly tasty- nice and moist.
A little bit of everything all in one plate! Several different kinds of meat, hummus, rice and tabbouleh!! Honestly, I feel all of the meat was a little dry. The sides... phenomenal! This is a denver staple for a reason!
I am from Louisiana and love to find a late night restaurant/ bakery. I called ahead to set my reservation for a party of three; there was plenty of parking. When we entered the establishment there were many college students enjoying fresh baklava and Kulage; I ordered both phenomenal desserts Togo. Everyone's favorite appetizer is the Sambusa. It is a fried pastry filled with savory potatoes, lentils, peas, and onions, Yummy! I was pleased to finally enjoy some extra sweet-tea; most restaurants I've visited in the area only serve unsweetened. Each entree here is fully authentic. The hummus and pita bread is delightful. I am glad my server suggested the Super Dish entree; the combination "super dish" is an array of specialty dishes Sheesh kabob, Chicken kabob, Sheesn Kifta, Lamb Gyros. Paired with hummus baba Ghanouj, fatouch, Tabbouleh, Falafel and grape leaves. I loved this grand mouthwatering dish. My friend enjoyed the Beef & Lamb Gyros. He said it was very tender. The chef formulated the perfect dish. It was tender, juicy, succulent Lamb Shanks. My husband devoured his Lamb Shanks. Thank you for a wonderful dinner date. I encourage you to check out my photos.
